Balance180 offers the Special Olympics Young Athletes Program and recreational and adaptive gymnastics classes!
Young Athletes is a free, innovative sports play program for children ages 2 – 7 with intellectual disabilities. The focus is on fun activities that are important to mental and physical growth. The program includes active games and other play activities that help children develop skills and prepares them for participation in the world of Special Olympics, which they’re eligible for at age 8.
Balance 180’s Recreational and Adaptive classes engage children ages 2 – 16 in learning basic gymnastic skills on the vault, bars, beam and floor. Our coaches emphasize the importance of safety and stretching and help children develop habits for success in and out of the gym.
Why Participate in Adaptive Sports or Gymnastics?
Gymnastics and adaptive sports are wonderful sport for kids, and can help them develop coordination, strength, balance, flexibility and so much more. Gymnastics in particular is considered one of the most comprehensive lifestyle exercise programs available to children.
Every part of the body is used in our programs, and our athletes and gymnasts don’t only exercise their bodies – they also exercise their minds. The cognitive and psychosocial benefits of sports and gymnastics may not be as obvious as the toned muscles, but they are just as important.
Child athletes and gymnasts learn to develop skills such as listening, patience, following directions, taking turns and respecting others. This helps prepare them to be successful in school and grow to be responsible adults. It can also build self esteem and improve confidence.
Plus, Balance 180 sports are lots of fun!
