The Spring 2014 YAP Culminating Event and first ever Adaptive Gymnastics Meet were a huge success. The events were held back to back on Sunday, April 13th. The events had a superhero theme, so our decorating team was hard at work to transform the gym into “Superhero Headquarters” with some fun decorations. In addition to the YAP Culminating Event, we added a new culminating event for our athletes in our adaptive gymnastics class to show off their skills. For both events, our SUPER athletes were able to demonstrate their SUPER skills to family and friends. Both events included a bake sale with baked goods and snacks donated by the parents of our athletes as well as Moe’s Southwest Grill. The YAP Culminating Event included a raffle which featured handmade jewelry from Bobby Fox Designs and gift certificates to local businesses. Balance 180 would like to thank everyone involved in making these events a success!
Highlights from Superhero Classic
For our first ever adaptive gymnastics meet, Superhero Classic, our athletes in the adaptive gymnastics class took turns performing their skills on vault, bars, beam and floor. Each athlete was a part of a superhero color team: Blue Team (Justice League), Red Team (The Incredibles), Yellow Team (Power Rangers), and Green Team (Superhero Squad). At the end of the event, the athletes were awarded with superhero superlatives and awards as well as the first ever Balance 180 team trophy. The event was a great success, and we are looking to forward to the next gymnastics meets for our athletes.
Highlights from the YAP Culminating Event
The YAP Culminating Event started off with the athletes carrying in an official Olympic torch from the 2012 London Olympic Games, followed by the athletes reciting the Special Olympics Pledge. During the event, the athletes participated in obstacle courses to demonstrate their skills. The event featured a very special video that highlighted each athlete made by our very own Julie Walter as well as a video put together by the YAP team that featured our athletes dancing to Katy Perry’s “Roar.” Overall, the event was a lot of fun and the kids had a blast!
